Founded 1816

History of the company

The unique know-how of the company DAKO-CZ, a.s. is based on a strong tradition of the past. Company roots date back to 1816, when the foundry and later the engineering plant was founded by Josef Jan Zvěřina in Třemošnice. After 1920, the company business expanded to include supplies for rail transport. The company experienced the greatest boom in the 1950s with the arrival of Mr. Josef Daněk. The production and assembly of brake system devices of the own DAKO design was started. In 1957, DAKO became a trademark, with the compound word DAKO being the combination of DAněk + KOvolis.

Company history

The success of the company is also evidenced by the international approval of the DAKO CV, CV1 and CV1D braking systems in 1956, which is the result of a group of technicians and designers lead by Josef Daněk. Josef Daněk was a leading Czech inventor who contributed significantly to railway safety with his braking systems. More than forty of his patents contributed to the development and future of the company. Josef Daněk is the father of the DAKO brake.

The DAKO plant was built on a green field between 1965 and 1970, and the name of the Třemošnice plant for DAKO was changed in 1967. In 1995, the development and production of brake systems for trams started, and in 2002 a new switchboard CV1nD was presented there.

Renaming the company headquarters

In June 2019 (21 June 2019), the company paid tribute to the inventor Josef Daněk, who, with his development group, developed key elements of the pneumatic braking system in the post-war period, and renamed the street in which it is based, to Josef Daněk 1956. The year 1956 in the name shows the year in which the DAKO CV, CV1 and CV1D pneumatic braking systems were internationally approved.
